Paul O. Hagen, 87, of Ogden, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at the Boone County Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, February 1, 2016, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Ogden. Pastor Chris Cowan will officiate. Burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the Boone Veteran's Council. Visitation will be Sunday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Paul Otis Hagen was born on April 23, 1928, in Sutherland, Iowa, the son of Omar and Nora (Williams) Hagen. He attended country schools until the age of 10, when they moved to Paullina, Iowa. He was in the 3rd grade at that time and went on to graduate from Paullina High School at the age of 18. During his high school years he played football, basketball, and baseball. After graduation from 1947 – 1950, he played semi – pro baseball for the "Paullina Lakers".

In April 1950, Paul started working for Northern Natural Gas in Paullina. In October of 1950, he was drafted into the United States Army. Paul was a member of the 43rd Division, 102nd Infantry as a medic. In 1951 he went to Germany with the 43rd Division. He was honorably discharged on August 5, 1952.

On March 16, 1953, Paul began his employment with Northern Natural Gas Co. (Ogden) which lasted 38 years, retiring in 1991.

On July 26, 1954, Paul was united in marriage to LaVonne Hartong of Sutherland, Iowa. Two children were born to this union: Steven Paul on February 2, 1955, and Cynthia Jane on October 26, 1959. Paul and LaVonne resided in Boone and moved to Ogden in 1956. In 1958, they moved to their farm 7 miles south of Ogden. Paul engaged in farming until his death.

Survivors include his wife, LaVonne Hagen of Ogden, Iowa; son, Steve (Connie) of Ogden, Iowa; daughter, Cynthia Jane of Saugus, California; and four grandchildren, Trestan, Tansie, Ashley, and Amber.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Donald.
